New Backpacks Help You Discover Nature
Spring is just around the corner, so now is the perfect time to come see what’s new at the Missouri Department of Conservation in Kirksville. At the Northeast Regional Office, our walking trail can lead you on a journey to discover nature! Stop by during office hours to check out one of the new "Discover Nature" backpacks. These backpacks give you a self-guided tour of the natural world as you walk the trail at the Northeast Regional Office.
Our "Discover Nature--Trees" backpack has everything you need to get up close and personal with the trees on the trail. Use a magnifier to see the tiny wonders of a new bud just opening on a twig. You spot a tree so big you can’t reach your arms around it, but your friend says he saw an even bigger one. Find out who is right using the tools included in the backpack. Then look through the field guides to identify what kind of trees they are. There’s even a nature journal where you can write down what you discover!
If you are more interested in wildlife, try checking out our "Discover Nature--Birds" backpack. Binoculars will let you see every detail of these fascinating animals—from the tip of their beaks to the flip of their tail feathers. See the simple elegance of the feather when you use the magnifier and blue jay feathers. Field guides and a nature journal allow you to keep track of all the birds you see, from the tufted titmouse to the yellow-bellied sapsucker. Don’t miss out on your chance to take part in one of Missouri’s most loved nature activities!
