Postcard Contest 2009

Upland Forest Habitat—We Gotta Have It!

This leaping wood frog depends on upland forest habitat--the kind that grows naturally on our big river bluffs. Our upland forests have changed a lot during the last 200 years, making it hard for the wood frog and many of his friends to thrive in our state.

Our Once and Future Upland Forests

When Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery journeyed through our state in 1804, steep, rolling hills flanked Missouri’s great rivers. This forest environment provided excellent habitat for a variety of animals. Sustainable forest management can restore their habitat and help them become common on Missouri's landscape once again.
