St. Louis, Mo. - Team Henges Trapshooting Club made history at this year’s Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Championship in Sparta, IL, on July 19 and 20. The team is based at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Jay Henges Shooting Range in High Ridge.
Five of the team’s squads finished in the top 10 — more than any other team and more than Team Henges had ever placed. The team’s varsity squad also recorded the team’s highest ever score, shooting 975 out of 1,000 targets. Additionally, several shooters achieved new personal bests.
Team Henges is comprised of youth from all over the St. Louis area and represents MDC's Jay Henges Shooting Range. The team took 34 shooters to the national competition, the largest number in the team’s history, to compete among the 1,565 contenders in the trap competition. Team Henges was the fourth largest group at the competition, at which 24 states were represented.

Abbey Stoner, 14, of Webster Groves– 3rd place, Ladies, in Advanced Intermediate Division
Team Awards:
Fifth Place (after a 3-way shoot-off tied for 3rd): Varsity Gold Squad, including Jack Koury, 16, of Manchester, Adam Thomas, 17, of Ladue, George Hensley III, 18, of Kirkwood, Anthony Simon, 16, of Ballwin, and Nick Koury, 16, of Manchester, coached by Jim Napoli. This squad’s score of 975/1,000 targets set a record for Team Henges. It was the first time in the team’s seven-year history that the squad shot a perfect round of 125 targets.
Fourth Place: Intermediate Entry White Squad, including Josh Taylor, 14, of Wildwood, Doug Williams, 13, of Wildwood, John Appelbaum, 13, of Webster Groves, Ennis Kramer, 11, of Fenton, and Nathan Stoner, 12, of Webster Groves, coached by Gwen Morris
Fifth Place: Rookie Blue Squad, including Aidan Kurrus, 11, of Kirkwood, Jake Humphrey, 11, of St. Claire, Andrew Butler, 11, of Ladue, Andrew Lazarski, 11, of Crestwood and Jesse Lewis, 9, of Imperial, coached by Mike Bolinger. This was the team’s first year for a Rookie Squad.
Sixth Place (and just one target behind 5th): Junior Varsity Red Squad, including Max Weiser, 14, of Town & Country, Kyle Lazarski, 15, of Crestwood, Cecilia Young, 15, of House Springs, Jack Lowrey, 15, of Ballwin and Paul Lochner, 17, of Town & Country, coached by Pat McCart.
Sixth Place: Intermediate Advanced Squad, including Matt Book, 14, of Crestwood, William Tihen, 14, of Washington, Ben Young, 12, of House Springs, Abbey Stoner, 14, of Webster Groves, and Brad Cox, 15, of Wildwood, coached by Mike Young.
Personal Bests:
• Anthony Simon, first 75 and 100 straight targets and 199/200 score as the 11th highest overall.
• Jack Koury, 100 straight targets
• George Hensley III, first 75 straight targets.
• Nathan Stoner, first 50 straight targets.
• Ennis Kramer, first 25 straight targets.
• Doug Williams, first 25 straight targets.
Team Henges is a competitive youth trapshooting team established in 2007. The team consists of 38 boys and girls, ranging in age from 9 to 18. Head Coach Mr. Jan Morris and five assistant coaches lead the team. For more information on Team Henges, call Morris at 636-464-6214.
The SCTP was organized in 2007 by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the shooting, hunting and firearms industry, to introduce school-age youths to and promote their participation in the shooting sports.
