Kirkwood, Mo — The Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Powder Valley Nature Center will help visitors discover the unique behaviors and adaptations that creatures use to survive the winter at Friday Night Live: Winter Wrap Up. This free family event takes place Friday, Feb. 15, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

“This special event will help people gain a deeper understanding of how our wildlife survives cold winter months,” said Naturalist Terri Eggers.

The evening will feature educational stations and activities, both indoors and out, that focus on what Eggers calls “the great ates” when it comes to animals surviving winter. Examples are hibernation, migration, excavation and congregation.

There’ll be plenty of winter-themed crafts and activities spaced throughout the nature center’s exhibit area, classrooms and auditorium to keep the whole family busy. These include a migration challenge, animal exercise classes, ice fishing, birdfeeder crafts and Q&A on winter hiking.

“There will be a campfire at our Broken Ridge Trail where families can enjoy interactive songs,” Eggers said.

The evening will also feature story telling performances by Libby Sanders in the nature center’s main auditorium.

“We want people to stay warm in winter as well,” Eggers reminded, “so there will be hot chocolate available too.”

Friday Night Live: Winter Wrap Up is free and no advanced registration is required. For more information on the event visitors should call 314-301-1500.

Powder Valley Nature Center is located at 11715 Cragwold Road in Kirkwood, near the intersection of I-44 and I-270. The Nature Center is owned and operated by MDC and has been helping people discover nature for more than 20 years.
