ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Waterfowl hunters will have the opportunity to draw for prime fall hunting spots on the Upper Mississippi Conservation Area on Saturday, July 12. That's when the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold the biennial Upper Mississippi Conservation Area Duck Blind Drawing for pools 24, 25, and 26.

Important to note is the change of location for the 2014 drawing. This year the drawing will be at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles. Participants can register for the drawing starting at 8 a.m. Registration cut off is at 9:30 a.m. and the drawings begin at 10 a.m.

Hunters should also note that the drawing will be held outdoors in the vicinity the Outpost Concessionaire Shop at the area's main office building. Participants are urged to bring their own chairs as there is limited seating available.

MDC will provide aerial maps for successful hunters to choose their blind sites as they are drawn. A change for the 2014/2015 hunting program will allow successful hunters more options at their blind site. Blind site holders will be able to construct a permanent blind as in past years or they can opt to hunt from a boat blind or temporary blind at the blind site instead of constructing a permanent blind.

Blind drawing registrants must be age 16 or older. Hunters age 16 to 64 are required to bring a 2014 Missouri Small Game Hunting Permit. All participants will need a 2014 Migratory Bird Permit and signed 2014 Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, as well as a photo ID. Hunting permits and federal duck stamps will be available for purchase onsite during the drawing.

Successful hunters may select up to three co-registrants the day of the drawing who will occupy the blind site with them. Those hunters must also provide name, address, phone number, date of birth, email address and conservation number for all co-registrants they wish to add to their blind.

The August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area is located on Highway D, two miles west of Highway 94 in St. Charles.

The Upper Mississippi Conservation Area includes federal lands along the Mississippi River north of St. Louis. It consists of 87 separate tracts totaling 12,500 acres between Melvin Price Lock and Dam and LaGrange, Missouri.
