St. Louis, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will partner with St. Louis Sprout and About on the 2013 Sprout and About Annual Celebration event Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Museum of Transportation.
St. Louis Sprout and About (stlsprout.com) is an online magazine and calendar that connects families with kid-friendly events and activities throughout the St. Louis area, including many opportunities to discover the wonders of nature and the outdoors.
According to Sprout and About, the Celebration began three years ago as a way to show appreciation for the site’s growing online community, sponsors and supporters. There will be a number of interactive and educational activities for children and families during the event. Admission to the celebration and to the Museum of Transportation for this event is free.
Participants will have the chance to stop by the MDC booth and subscribe to the department’s Xplor magazine. This award-winning, bi-monthly publication is delivered free to Missouri residents and is designed to inspire children to learn about, explore and experience nature first hand. Xplor features colorful images and graphics, compelling stories about plants and wildlife, outdoor activities like fishing and camping, and exciting jobs in conservation. Plus each issue has do-it-yourself explorations to energize a child’s curiosity about the outdoor world around them.
Xplor magazine also has a companion website, xplor.mdc.mo.gov/#home, where children can investigate nature even more with interactive content like pictures, sounds and video.
Other partners joining the 2013 Sprout and About Celebration include the World Bird Sanctuary, St. Louis Science Center, Humane Society of Missouri, and the Challenger Learning Center of St. Louis. The event will also feature face painting, kids’ crafts, and safety education activities. There will also be a performance by popular local entertainer Juggling Jeff at noon.
The Museum of Transportation is located at 3015 Barrett Station Road.
