COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting pond management workshops from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on March 4 in Columbia and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on March 6 in Montgomery City. The workshops are free, but space is limited and participants must pre-register by March 3.
“This workshops are great for new or current landowners who would like to learn more about pond management,” said MDC Fisheries Management Biologist Scott Voney. “Whether you have a pond or are thinking of building one, these workshops will give you the necessary background and information to assist you with your pond.”
Each workshop will cover a wide variety of topics including pond-site selection, pond construction, pond stocking, fisheries management, aquatic vegetation management, pond watershed management, and nuisance wildlife.
Professionals from MDC, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will give presentations and will be available to answer questions. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
The workshop in Columbia will be held at the MDC E. Sydney Stephens Central Regional Office and Conservation Research Center. The building is conveniently located off of US Highway 63 just west of the Discovery Parkway exit on the south side of East Gans Road.
