RENICK, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting a two-day hunter education course from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 22 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Renick R-V School. Class size is limited to 50 participants 11 years of age or older. Pre-registration is required.

Students will learn how to be safe and responsible hunters during the two-day course. Items covered include the parts of firearms and ammunition and how they operate, basic shooting skills, how to safely load and unload a firearm and how to safely transport and carry firearms. The class also includes information on the role of the hunter in wildlife management and conservation, outdoor ethics and hunter preparedness. Those who successfully complete this course will receive a hunter education certificate card.

To register for the class, go online to https://my.register-ed.com and click on Missouri. For questions, or if you do not have internet access, call the MDC Northeast Regional office at 660-785-2420.

If you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1967, and are 16 years of age or older you must complete an approved hunter education certification class or buy an Apprentice Hunter Authorization before buying hunting permits. Youth under 16 years of age do not need hunter education certification to hunt any Missouri species while hunting with an adult mentor.

Adult hunters over 18 years of age and born after Jan. 1, 1967, may need hunter education to mentor hunters who are not certified and not hunting on a landowner permit. The Missouri certification is good for life and is recognized by all other states and provinces with mandatory hunter education requirements.

Renick R-V School is located at 101 Middle St. in Renick.
