MDC to host trapping workshop in Kirksville
Kirksville, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a trapping workshop at the MDC Northeast Regional Office in Kirksville on Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. There is no cost for the program, but pre-registration is required.
“Trapping is a rewarding and time-honored tradition in Missouri,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver. “Trapping is a vital conservation tool to help keep Missouri’s wildlife populations balanced and healthy. This workshop is a great way to get introduced to the basics of trapping as multiple traps and styles of sets will be demonstrated.”
The workshop will cover benefits of trapping, ethics, regulations, trap types, sets, trap care, and brief animal histories. Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. Rubber boots are recommended. The workshop is open to all ages but those younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
To register for the program, or for more information, contact Garver at 660-785-2420, ext. 6507, or Rob.Garver@mdc.mo.gov by Oct. 19.
The Northeast Regional Office is located just south of Kirksville on Highway 63. For more information about Missouri's trapping regulations, permits, seasons and much more go online to mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/trapping.
