CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Landowners will explore forest management techniques at a Forestry Field Tour presented by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) on Saturday, March 15, at the MDC’s General Watkins Conservation Area (CA) in Scott County, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for landowners to learn how to get the most out of their forest resource before, during, and after a timber sale,” said Brad Pobst, an MDC private lands conservationist. “We’ll talk about ways to provide habitat for deer, turkey and other wildlife species, as well as improve water quality.”

Pobst said the Forestry Field Tour focuses on landowner practices that benefit forest resources and wildlife. Timber harvest, timber stand improvement (TSI), edge feathering, temporary forest opening, oak regeneration, control of unwanted plant species, prescribe fire, wildlife watering facilities and food plots will all be explored, according to Pobst.

This Forestry Field Tour is part of the MDC’s efforts to work with Missourians to protect and manage the fish, forests and wildlife of the state and to ensure Missouri continues to be a great place to hunt and fish.

Landowners can register for this event by calling the MDC’s Southeast Regional office at (573)290-5730 or the Cape County Soil and Water Conservation District at (573)243-1467 ext. 123.
