Join MDC for an Evening with Wildlife in Macon

MACON, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites you to discover nature and spend an evening with wildlife from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, in the gymnasium at Macon High School. All parts of the event are free and open to the public.

Activities include a youth archery range, laser shot, fly tying, wildlife art, turkey and waterfowl call demonstrations, and a live reptile and amphibian educational booth. At 7 p.m., the World Bird Sanctuary will hold a presentation on birds of prey, featuring a live eagle. Additionally, certified deer antler scorers will be present to measure trophy whitetails and see how it compares to the “Missouri Monarch,” the current state-record whitetail trophy.

“This event is a great opportunity to have fun and to educate children and adults about issues relating to conservation,” said MDC Conservation Agent Matt Bergfield. “MDC staff will be available to answer questions about ponds and lakes, trees and forests, and just about any upland game wildlife you can think of.”

Information about various types of outdoor activities at local publicly owned areas will be available from staff working the event. Plus members from partner organizations including Missouri State Parks, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and several area businesses will be in attendance hosting informational booths and will be available to answer questions.
