COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites youth to discover nature with a youth deer hunt and camp on Nov. 2 and 3 in Boone County. This program is free and open to first time youth deer hunters ages 11 to 15 and who are hunter-education certified. All selected participants must be accompanied by a parent or adult mentor age 18 or older. Hunters and mentors will camp on-site beginning Nov. 1 and all meals and tents will be provided.

All participants selected must attend a “pre-hunt” orientation meeting and clinic on Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the MDC Central Regional Office in Columbia.

Participants will learn how to select the best ammunition and firearm for deer hunting, how to improve their hunting and shooting skills, how to properly sight-in their rifle, hunting regulations, and much more.

The youth deer hunt is limited to five youth. Due to the popularity of the hunt, a lottery drawing will be held to determine participants. Successful hunters will be notified by Oct. 25. Registration forms will be accepted through Oct. 23.

To apply, or for more information, contact MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers at Brian.Flowers@mdc.mo.gov or 573-815-7901, ext. 3388.

This program is co-sponsored by Missouri Whitetails.com. MDC’s “Discover Nature” programs are an ongoing series of seminars designed to help Missourians explore nature and master outdoor skills together.

The E. Sydney Stephens Central Regional Office and Conservation Research Center is conveniently located off of US Highway 63 just west of the Discovery Parkway exit on the south side of East Gans Road.
