Columbia, Mo. – Archers of every skill level are invited to the second annual Discover Archery Day.

Co-sponsored by Columbia Area Archers, with support from the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the event takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at American Legion Park, 602 South Legion Lane in Columbia.

Archery Day will offer a wide range of activities for both seasoned archers and families looking to learn more about one of the fastest growing activities in the nation.

“Archery teaches focus and discipline, traits that can benefit today’s youth in a fast-paced video-game world,” said MDC Outdoors Skills Specialist Brian Flowers. “It is a family-friendly sport that everybody can enjoy.”

Participants in the event will have a chance to learn about field and indoor archery, Junior Olympic training, 4H shooting sports, the Missouri Archery In the Schools program and bowfishing. Experts from around the state will be on hand to answer questions and offer hands-on demonstrations. There will also be raffles and door prizes, plus, 3-D archery shooting practice beginning at 7 a.m.
