KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Processing a deer after you have harvested one is a great way to save money and achieve personal satisfaction. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a deer processing workshop at the MDC Northeast Regional Office in Kirksville on Dec. 9 from 6–9 p.m. There is no cost for the program, but pre-registration is required.

The workshop will cover the process of harvesting a deer from the field to the freezer including skinning, quartering and the various cuts of meat. All necessary equipment will be provided.

WEST PLAINS, Mo. -- Missouri conservation agents conducted an archery compliance check in Howell, Phelps, and Texas Counties over the Veteran’s Day weekend. The first portion of the Archery deer season ends this Friday.

Protection District Supervisor Jerry Elliott said this compliance check was very similar to checks the agents conduct at trout parks when they check all resource users.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Duck in from holiday shopping crowds and discover nature at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Runge Nature Center’s shopping alternative event Duck, Duck, Goose from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.

“This has become a traditional event for many families in the Jefferson City area and surrounding communities,” said MDC Naturalist Trana Madsen. “Each year we choose a different conservation topic and create a thematic message connecting people to Missouri outdoors. This year our theme is waterfowl.”

High Ridge, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) rifle/pistol range at the Jay Henges Shooting Range will shut down Wednesday, Nov. 20, to allow for repairs to the bullet trap. The trap fields, shotgun patterning and archery ranges will remain open during this time.
