HANNIBAL, Mo.—Due to the predicted rise in river levels on the Mississippi and Salt Rivers, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Ted Shanks Conservation Area (CA) will be closed to all public use beginning at 5 p.m. TODAY, June 28.

This closure includes frog hunting activities, the boat ramp on the Salt River and the DuPont Access, and the boat ramp on the Mississippi River. The entire conservation area will remain closed until further notice.

Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation's Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center will host a “Sustainability Saturday” event on Saturday, Aug. 3, that is devoted to education, actions and products that promote recycling and wise use of natural resources. Experts from non-profit groups, public agencies and private business will make presentations from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave. in Kansas City.

Troy, Mo — The unstaffed shooting range located on the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) William R. Logan Conservation Area is now open again. The range temporarily shut down last December so that a number of upgrades and safety enhancements could be performed. The conservation area is off State Highway E northeast of the town of Silex.

Lincoln, Mo. -- A black bear confirmed in Benton County on Tuesday, June 25, could be the same one that has been on a path through Barton, Vernon and Bates counties in recent weeks. The bear was in brush near a field beside Route C about five miles west of Lincoln. A citizen notified Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC ) Agent David Harms about the bear. Agent Harms responded, confirmed the sighting, and took some distant photos.

Kansas City, Mo. – The channel catfish were biting and participants were smiling on June14 at a Kids Fishing Derby sponsored by the Urban American Outdoors television show. The 8th annual derby at Spring Valley Park drew 240 children plus parents, grandparents and guardians, said Wayne Hubbard, the show’s host, and Candice Price, executive producer.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) stocked the catfish in the pond at East 28th Street and Spring Valley Drive.
