ST. JOSEPH, Mo -- Free hotdogs and a discussion on plans to beautify and improve the fishing at Corby Pond will be offered from 5:30 p.m. to dusk on May 18 at the pond near 22nd Street in The Parkway at St. Joseph. The event is hosted by the Loess Hills Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalists.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Frohna resident Eldon E. Luckey, 22, plead guilty this week to 17 charges of taking wildlife illegally in the 32nd Circuit Court with the Honorable Judge Michael Bullerdieck presiding. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the charges stem from a December 2011 investigation conducted by conservation agents.

JAMESPORT, Mo. -- A mountain lion was photographed by a trail camera on April 2 in rural Grundy County in northwest Missouri. The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Mountain Lion Response Team confirmed the sighting on April 23 by visiting the site where the photograph was taken.
Wisconsin resident Paul Korn, who leases the land for hunting, reported the photograph to MDC. The camera was in a wooded area in southwest Grundy County. The photograph was taken about 8:45 p.m.

Kennett, Mo. – Conservationists are seeing improvements in fish reproduction at Jerry P. Combs Lake, located on Little River Conservation Area (CA) near Kennett. Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Fisheries Management Biologist Salvador Mondragon reports that after nearly 9,000 largemouth bass were stocked in the lake in fall of 2011, biologists are noticing natural reproduction of the fish.
MDC has stocked largemouth bass since 2009. Other fish such as crappie and catfish are thriving in the lake as well, he said.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will hold a night fishing event for children May 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. “Nature Center at Night” will feature lessons on the basics of fishing and the whole family is invited to the Nature Center’s kid’s fishing pond to see what kind of monsters will be pulled out in the twilight hours.
According to MDC Naturalist Jen Weaver, fishing is such a great way to get out in nature and be outdoors that more than 1.3 million Missourians take part in the sport.
CRAWFORD COUNTY, Mo — A conservation agent has a complex job that goes far beyond enforcing Missouri’s Wildlife Code. It involves a mix of public relations, youth mentoring and occasionally, even traditional law-enforcement.
Each year, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) selects one conservation agent to receive the distinguished Missouri Outstanding Conservation Agent of the Year Award. This year’s recipient was Crawford County Agent Tim Tallent.
