The Conservation Commission met June 23 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4600 S. Chrisman, Springfield.

The next meeting of the Conservation Commission was set for Aug. 16 and 17 in Sedalia.
AGENDA
PRESENTATIONS
Commission meetings are open to the public. Those wishing to be placed on the agenda for a presentation or other business must send a written request to Director, Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180, or FAX (573) 751-4467, at least 10 working days before the meeting date. The deadline for the next meeting is Aug. 2.
The Commission received presentations from:
- Dr. Ruth Grant, Board of Trustees Chair; Doug Ladd, Director of Conservation Programs; and Susan Harris, State Director; The Nature Conservancy, concerning a deed for a Cuivre River access and to discuss common goals.
- Loring Bullard, Executive Director, Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, concerning a report on the Watershed Center at Valley Water Mill.
- Tony Schoonen, Executive Director, Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Zooquarium, who presented an update on various WOW Museum programs and potential partnership opportunities.
The Commission also presented 2,000-hour Volunteer Service Awards to Betty Johnson and Earl Niewald for their work at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.
REGULATIONS
The Commission approved the following hunting seasons and limits for rail, snipe, woodcock and doves:
SORA AND VIRGINIA RAILS: September 1 through November 9 (70 days); limits-25 daily or in possession.
COMMON SNIPE: September 1 through December 16 (107 days); limits-8 daily, 16 in possession.
AMERICAN WOODCOCK: October 15 through November 28 (45 days); limits-3 daily, 6 in possession.
MOURNING DOVE, EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES AND WHITE-WINGED
DOVES: September 1 through November 9 (70 days); limits-12 daily, 24 in possession.
BLUE-WINGED TEAL:
- The population status of the blue-winged teal will not be known until August. If the blue-winged teal breeding population index is:
- Below 3.3 million birds, the season will be closed.
- At least 3.3 million but less than 4.7 million birds, a nine-day season is recommended:
Season Dates: September 9-17
Limit 4 daily, 8 in possession - 4.7 million or greater, a sixteen-day season is recommended:
September 9-24
Limit 4 daily, 8 in possession - Teal shooting hours are sunrise to sunset. Shooting hours for other early migratory birds is one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
- The structure of early migratory bird seasons remains unchanged from 2005.
- The three-zone structure for Missouri's duck season will remain unchanged except for a slight northward shift in the North/Middle zone boundary. The boundary formerly ran west along I-70 from its junction with Highway 47 in Warren County to the junction of Highway 54 in Callaway County. At that point, it followed Highway 54 south to Highway 50 and then followed Highway 50 west to the Kansas border. ADMINISTRATION
The Commission:
- Approved entering into a contract with Southern Custom Exhibits of ALA, Inc., of Aniston, Ala., for exhibit renovation at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center and development of rotating exhibits for other Department facilities
- Approved the purchase of 154.83 acres in Atchison County as an addition to Brickyard Hill Conservation Area (CA) and 36 acres in Atchison County as an addition to Deroin Bend CA.
- Approved a position statement in favor of reauthorizing the state sales and use tax for soil and water conservation and state parks.
- Extended the deadline for executing a contract for construction of the St. Joseph Nature Center from June 30 to Dec. 31.
- Suspended hunting and/or fishing privileges of 21 Missouri residents for Wildlife Code violations. Those whose privileges were suspended are:
