Heterodermia casarettiana - Hale (1979) mapped this species from the SE1/3 Mo. This is a southeastern species, with no known collections proximal to Missouri, despite extensive fieldwork in suitable habitats. Given the tenuous and unsubstantiated nature of the only source attributing this species to Missouri, it is excluded from the flora.

HYPOTRACHYNA (Vain.) Hale

Hypotrachyna formosana [image of equals H. osseoalba (Vain.) Y. S. Park & Hale] -local reports are referable to Hypotrachyna pustulifera. Hale (1972) and Skorepa (1983) both mention that previous reports of this taxon include H. pustulifera. Hale (1972) maps H. formosana from no closer to Missouri than Alabama and southern and eastern Kentucky [as Parmelia formosana]. All Midwestern material examined to date is the morphologically similar H. pustulifera, which differs in containing atranorin and lacking lichexanthone.
