The Jay Henges Range begins its extended hours for public shooting.

•The ranges are closed to public shooting on all Mondays, Tuesdays, and on state holidays.

April 1 through November 30

•Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

•Thursday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

•Friday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

•Shooting during public hours is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The extremely popular 5-Stand Sporting Clays is back and scheduled today and every Wednesday through October 26th.

What is 5-Stand Sporting Clays?

Sporting Clays is a challenging clay target game designed to simulate field shooting. On a Sporting Clays course, shooters are presented with a wide variety of targets that duplicate the flight path of gamebirds, such as flushing, crossing, incoming and other angling shots.

5-Stand is a condensed version of sporting clays. This game uses 6-8 automatic traps. 5-stand courses present targets in a variety of combinations to challenge the shooter. Targets are single target, report pairs, and true or simultaneous pairs.

A squad of five shooters can move from station to station with a predetermined menu of shots and combinations, or in a sequence unknown to the shooters.

Trap locations, target angles, and speed at individual stations may be changed from time to time, it is difficult for shooters to "groove in" as they might in trap or skeet.

Here is your chance to learn all the skills you need to give waterfowl hunting a shot. This hands on program will give participants knowledge and skills in wingshooting, waterfowl hunting techniques, distance estimation, waterfowl identification, bird retrieval, ammunition selection and much more. No experience necessary. Participants must be Hunter Education certified and be 11-15 years of age. One way to fully appreciate the beauty of the Ozarks is to travel down one of its rivers. This program gives you the opportunity to discover nature by spending two days on the water in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. We will meet at Twin Pines Conservations Education Center on Saturday at 9:00 am and will be back at Twin Pines by 5:00 pm Sunday. Equipment and meals will be provided. Ages 12 and up. To attend the Youth Dove Hunt on September 5, participants must attend the pre-hunt workshop. This is the time of year to start brushing-up on your deer calling skills. This class offers the opportunity to understand how deer communicate. Learn how to make the calls that will attract deer closer to your stand, blind, or viewing platform. We will discuss the four basic deer calls that can be used during the time of the rut. Bring a notebook, a pen and any calls you may have. This class will be held in the classrooms at the Busch Conservation Area. (Ages 11 and up).
