For November, the spotlight will be on endangered species of Missouri. In this self-led program, you will learn the current status of some of our species of concern, what has caused them to become threatened, and how you can help. (No reservations necessary.)

Registration required beginning October 18 by calling 816-759-7300 (adults) Deer season is underway and tonight is the night to learn how to skin and butcher a whitetail deer. We’ll turn the best cuts over to Chef Jasper Mirabile of “Jasper’s Ristorante”, and Chefs Rick Mullins and Mickey Priolo of “Soil Collective.” They will show you how to take backstrap and shoulder roasts to a whole new, scrumptious level. A $20.00 per person refundable deposit is required to hold your spot.

Enjoy the colors of autumn with this month’s story, “Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” by Julia Rawlinson. Find out why Fletcher is worried about his favorite tree and how he tries to save it when it starts losing its leaves. When he thinks he has failed, see how the tree surprises him on the first day of winter. Then get ready to use the colors of autumn by making your own “Leaf Man” creation. Ever wonder what it takes to keep all of the nature center reptiles, amphibians, and fish happy? Thanks to some amazing animal care volunteers, they are fed a delicious smorgasbord of crickets, worms, minnows, and more! Drop by to visit with the volunteers and staff as they feed the hungry critters. Youth and adult groups welcome.

Whet your appetite with “Cooking Outdoors” and join us for this Nature Nuts program where we’ll teach a variety of ways to cook a variety of wild game. Everyone will have a chance to prepare their own wild dish and then sample their classmates as well. Everyone cooks and everyone eats. This activity is designed for ages 8 to 12. “Treasure” Hunting with GPS

Geocaching is an outdoor “treasure” hunt using GPS units. We’ll go over basic GPS use and then hit the trails to find some “treasure.” GPS units provided. Ages 8 and up with an adult mentor.
