Jakes stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship. Designed for the 6 to 12 year old, this skill-building day is filled with a variety of outdoor activities. Join the NWTF members and Twin Pines staff for sessions on archery, air rifle, hunting safety, outdoor skills and fishing. Lunch will be served. Participants will have a chance in our drawings and don't forget to pick up your goodie bag before you leave. Pre-registration is strongly advised. Take a walk on the "wild side" and enjoy the Missouri Ozarks with a two-day, overnight hike on the Ozark Trail. The hike starts in the elk restoration zone at Peck Ranch and ends on the banks of the Current River. Food will be provided. Backpacking equipment is available on request. Enjoy the colors of autumn with this month’s story, “Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” by Julia Rawlinson. Find out why Fletcher is worried about his favorite tree and how he tries to save it when it starts losing its leaves. When he thinks he has failed, see how the tree surprises him on the first day of winter. Then get ready to use the colors of autumn by making your own “Leaf Man” creation. Whet your appetite with “Cooking Outdoors” and join us for this Nature Nuts program where we’ll teach a variety of ways to cook a variety of wild game. Everyone will have a chance to prepare their own wild dish and then sample their classmates as well. Everyone cooks and everyone eats. This activity is designed for ages 8 to 12.
