Children in Nature

The Missouri Department of Conservation, along with other state agencies, offers many opportunities to guide children outdoors, where they can connect with nature by experiencing it firsthand and learn what it takes to keep Missouri’s plants and animals healthy. Here are some programs that will help you connect your children to nature and also meet the Governor’s Children in Nature Challenge (see "External Links" below).

  • Discover Nature Schools

    Get your students excited about nature now, and they’ll be conservationists for life. Discover Nature Schools is a conservation education program designed to help students get outside to experience fun, hands-on learning in nature close to home. The program includes student and teacher guides that meet state education standards, as well as grants for field trips and instructional materials.

  • Discover Nature FamiliesBecome a "nature-wise" superhero to your kids. Explore nature and master outdoor skills with them. Discover Nature Families programs show you how. Find one near you.
  • Missouri National Archery in the Schools ProgramStart an archery program at your school and watch your students find aim like never before. We offer teacher training and equipment grants to help you get your program going. Use this minisite to learn more about MoNASP, find training opportunities and catch the excitement of state and national student archery tournaments.
  • Nature and Interpretive Centers

    Missouri’s nature and interpretive centers connect Missourians with nature through nature trails, live exhibits and programs for all ages on conservation-related topics.

  • Places to Go

    Find Missouri conservation areas, nature centers, fish hatcheries, natural areas and shooting ranges where you can pursue your favorite outdoor activity close to home or across the state.

  • Governor Nixon's Children in Nature Challenge

    The Children in Nature Challenge is a program to recognize communities and families who create opportunities for their children to get outside and discover nature firsthand. A number of resources from Missouri state agencies can help communities get started.
