Horton Bottoms

Horton Bottoms

A wet prairie, wet savanna, freshwater marsh, bottomland forest and headwaters stream of the Osage Plains Natural Division. This area as a whole is the premier natural floodplain ecosystem in this natural division. Characteristic plants include cordgrass, bulrush, buttonbush, sedges and smartweeds. Bald eagles use the area in winter. A heron rookery with more than 100 nests is located along the Little Osage.

Access by boat only from Little Osage or Marmaton Rivers. GPS confluence of the the Little Osage and Marmaton Rivers.
