Eck Memorial
Dry and dry-mesic chert forest in the Lower Ozarks Section of the Ozark Natural Division. This area is characterized by old-growth and old, second-growth shortleaf pine, black and mockernut hickories and scarlet, black and white oaks. Scattered Roubidoux sandstone outcrops occur on very steep slopes. The area has a 200-year history of very low fire occurrence and serves as a benchmark to compare with natural communities that historically burned more frequently.
