Joan Banks is a freelance writer who enjoys watching groundhogs south of Joplin. She has written four suspense novels and three children's books, including "Song of La Selva: The Story of a Costa Rican Rain Forest." Her work has appeared in a variety of publications, including National Geographic World, SuperScience, Missouri Life. She enjoys hiking, camping and bicycling. |

Tom Cwynar is the editor of the Conservationist. Before coming to work at the Conservation Department nearly a decade ago, he edited an archery magazine, a fishing and hunting magazine and the outdoor section of a metropolitan newspaper. He says the things he loves most about Missouri are its big reservoirs and Ozark streams, especially the stretches with trout in them. |

Greg Gremaud is a natural history regional biologist in the Conservation Department's northeast region. He has been employed by the Conservation Department since 1984. Greg's special interests include botanizing, birding and restoring native habitats. Greg, his wife, Janet, and their three children live on a farm outside of Kirksville. |

JoAnn Rivinus lives in St. Louis and is a certified fundraising executive. She formerly served as the director of development and communications for The Nature Conservancy of Missouri. An avid gardener and a member of the Federated Garden Club, she enjoys traveling around the state identifying wildflowers. She is particularly fond of prairie wildflowers. |

Jim Wilson has been an ornithologist with the Conservation Department for 23 years. His experiences of hunting waterfowl as a boy in northwestern Iowa sparked a lifelong interest in wetlands and marsh birds. He still spends his springs and summers wading Missouri's marshes in search of bitterns, moorhens and rails. Jim lives in Jefferson City with his wife, Marsha. |
