Brenda Eichholz of Sedalia and MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers proudly hold a paddlefish Brenda snagged earlier at Lake of the Ozarks at Warsaw. The female fish weighed 70-pounds, measured 46 inches long and was approximately 13-years-old. Brenda, a first time paddlefish snagger, was participating in MDC’s Discover Nature Snagging Clinic in Warsaw on April 13. Participants attended an educational session on paddlefish and then spent a few hours fishing with MDC staff. Paddlefish, also known as spoonbill, are one of America’s largest freshwater fish. Paddlefish fisheries in Table Rock, Truman and Lake of the Ozarks are maintained by annually stocking hatchery-produced fingerlings that are 10-12 inches long. The paddlefish snagging season continues thru April 30.
