Ozarks Pioneer Tells the Tale of Hogs in Missouri

Melanie Carden-Jessen portrays an Ozarks pioneer hog caller
In the early 1930s, Shannon County native Lennis Broadfoot completed what he called character studies on everyday folks who scratched out a living in these hard Ozarks Hills. A hog caller, Mary Boxx, is now brought to life by Twin Pines Education Center manager Melanie Carden-Jessen to tell the story of hogs and the impact they have on wildlife both in Mary's time and today. Feral hogs are once again becoming a problem in the Ozarks and efforts are underway to limit their population.  More
