In the early 1930s, Shannon County native Lennis Broadfoot completed what he called character studies on everyday folks who scratched out a living in these hard Ozarks Hills. A hog caller, Mary Boxx, is now brought to life by Twin Pines Education Center manager Melanie Carden-Jessen to tell the story of hogs and the impact they have on wildlife both in Mary's time and today. Feral hogs are once again becoming a problem in the Ozarks and efforts are underway to limit their population.
Among the large animals you might see in Missouri are black bears, coyotes, feral hogs and mountain lions. Use this section to learn more about them, their tracks and field signs, and to report sightings.
