Discover Nature Girls Camp

Discover Nature Girls Camp

Participants practice safe firearm handling during a safety course under the supervision of Conservation Agent Tim McDaniel at MDC's Discover Nature Girls Camp. The camp teaches girls age 11-15 a variety of outdoor skills and gives them the chance to become Hunter Education certified. The overnight event is free and takes place July 21-23 this year at Cuivre River State Park in Lincoln County, just east of Troy.

Discover Nature Girls Camp

Campers will spend three fun-filled days learning by participating in “hands on” outdoor skills, led by conservation professionals.  Some of the planned activities include hunter education, firearms safety and target shooting, archery equipment safety, walking through a safety trail, canoeing, orienteering and fishing.

Discover Nature program at James A. Reed

Paddles, critters, fish and fun all were enjoyed June 27-29 when the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City visited the James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area near Lee’s Summit for a Discover Nature Field Day. Each morning, the youths rotated to learning stations for skills ranging from fishing and canoeing to identifying bugs or learning the ecology of mammals and snakes. MDC education staff organized and hosted the event with help from volunteers such as members of Missouri Master Naturalist chapters.

Girls Camp

Participants at MDC's free Discover Nature Girls Camp June 14-16 at Camp Palestine in Johnson County learn outdoor skills and get to try them out, such as fishing at the camp's lake. Space is limited and registrations are accepted in the order that completed registrations are received. Registration forms are available at MDC offices in the Kansas City Region.
