Thanks for the comment Calypso Bay.  At a prescribed burn workshop, landowners learn how to prepare a burn plan although MDC staff are available to assist as needed, and how to conduct the burn.  This isn't just classroom time as a hands-on component is included.  We want landowners to feel comfortable managing their own property.  That does include working with local volunteer fire departments as well.  We feel that fire is an important tool in the managers bag of tricks.  Thanks again for the interest.

Controlled burns are a part of the natural eco-system here in Australia - especially in a country with as much bush as we have!. It's great to see there are workshops on this thing, but it should be left to the fire fighters to do though..
