Planting 120,000 Trees for Missouri Arbor Day

Apr 04, 2008

Plant a tree! Friday, April 4 is Missouri Arbor Day. Fourth graders whose schools participate will each receive a tree to plant today. A lot of people can measure their lives by the change in the little tree seedlings they planted as kids. I wonder how many who read this blog can remember their own Arbor Day trees?

Whether you need tips on how to help plant your child’s tree or want to plant one of your own, here are some tips on planting trees so they’ll survive and thrive. This year’s Missouri Arbor Day seedlings are some of the 4 million seedlings raised each year at the Missouri Conservation Department tree nursery (George O. White State Forest Nursery) in Licking, Mo. We also provide schools with special Arbor Day education packs on the biology of trees and why they’re important. The Missouri Department of Transportation helps support the program by paying for the Arbor Day seedlings that we raise.
