Work in Progress: First of December 2010

Dec 09, 2010

Despite the wet conditions over the last few weeks the contractors are still making progress at Cato Levee.  Today they are pouring the last bit of concrete for the water control structure.  The temperature is now making things difficult and has required them to take extra measures.  They've got a heater in the base of the structure to warm the steel and walls and are covering the forms with tarps to keep it insulated during the curing process.  Once the concrete cures and test samples pass the pressure test the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will give the contractors the go-ahead to start backfilling the levee.  Once this is done the final work will include removing the coffer dams on either side.

Also this week our engineer and draftsman came down to go over our plans in Units A and B.  They have taken our conceptual drawings and are developing the engineering specs for next summer's work.  I'm currently working on a post to show you all what we've got planned, but I don't have it done quite yet.
Stay tuned and I'll be providing some more detail on what we intend for Units A and B. I'll follow it up with some information on C Blind as well.

That is all for now.  Stay warm this weekend.

Testing the Waters

It’s a shame that little Miss Muffett was too frightened to meet the spider that sat down beside her. She would have discovered that spiders are exceptional creatures.
