How Can I Help Peruque Creek?
Peruque Creek is one of only eight healthy stream systems in Jefferson, St. Louis, and St. Charles counties. However, its health is challenged by extensive urban sprawl and some land use practices. Peruque Creek and its watershed needs your help if it is going to stay healthy.
Here are some things you can do to help:
- Form or join a Stream Team and adopt Peruque Creek
- Get involved in the Peruque Creek Watershed Alliance (contact: Sarah Oakes @ 636/441-4554, ext. 312)
- Ask the Department of Natural Resources to fully-enforce existing laws governing sedimentation in and around Peruque Creek
- Ask the St. Charles and Warren County Commissions and Cities of Lake St. Louis, Wentzville, Foristell, and Wright City to preserve Peruque Creek by establishing parks and conservation-oriented development rules for its watershed
- Ask the St. Charles and Warren County Commissions and Cities of Lake St. Louis, Wentzville, Foristell, and Wright City to only allow development that will not harm Peruque Creek
- Ask the St. Charles and Warren County Commissions and Department of Natural Resources to protect Peruque Creek's water quality
- Ask the St. Charles and Warren County Commissions and Department of Natural Resources to control stormwater and sewage runoff from new and existing developments
- Comment on Planning and Zoning changes or developments that may harm Peruque Creek
- Encourage and help Peruque Creek landowners to plant trees along streambanks
