How Can I Help LaBarque Creek?
LaBarque Creek is one of only eight healthy stream systems in Jefferson, St. Louis, and St. Charles counties. Its geology and watershed make LaBarque Creek unique to eastern Missouri, but needs your help if it is going to stay healthy.
Here are some things you can do to help:
- Form or join a Stream Team and adopt LaBarque Creek
- Ask the Jefferson County Commission to preserve LaBarque Creek by establishing parks and conservation-oriented development rules for its watershed
- Ask the Jefferson County Commission to only allow development that will not harm LaBarque Creek
- Ask the Jefferson County Commission and Department of Natural Resources to protect LaBarque Creek's water quality
- Ask the Jefferson County Commission to control stormwater runoff from new and existing developments
- Comment on Planning and Zoning changes or developments that may harm LaBarque Creek
- Encourage and help LaBarque Creek landowners to plant trees along streambanks
- Visit LaBarque Creek in Young Conservation Area, off Hwy. F in Jefferson County
- If you are a landowner in the LaBarque Creek Watershed, please consider joining the LaBarque Creek Watershed conservation effort by calling Kevin Meneau (636/441-4554, ext. 239)
