Kids’ Fishing Fair 2008 Reels ‘Em In

Bring the family to the 2008 Kids’ Fishing Fair, May 17 at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area, St. Charles. Kids ages 15 and under will learn the ins and outs of fishing and may even land their first fish at this free event, held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No advance reservations are required, but participants must register at the information tent in the Lake 2 parking lot.

Drop a line in the lakes for tons of fishing fun and stop by one of the booths for demonstrations on how to cast or fillet a fish. Youngsters should bring their own fishing rods and bait, although there will be a limited number of fishing poles available to borrow on a first come, first served basis. Bait will also be available for purchase at the Outpost Bait & Tackle Shop on the premises.

Although fishing is open only to youngsters, parents who have a valid fishing license can help their children bait their hooks and land their fish.

The fun takes place at lakes 1, 2 and 15 on the conservation area. For more information, call (636) 441-4554.

Urban Wildlife Issues

Exploring how people and animals coexist in urban areas

West St. Louis County Deer Task Force

The dilemma of suburban deer management is not unique to the St. Louis area; metropolitan regions throughout the United States face similar issues related to the growth of white-tailed deer populations in the suburbs. In order to address this issue that crosses municipal boundaries and property lines, the West St. Louis County Deer Task Force was formed.
