Hidden Valley Natural Area

An 82-acre area located within Hidden Valley Park in the W1/2 of Section 9, T50N, R32W, North Kansas City 7.5 min. topographic map. Access is from Parvin Road to Hidden Valley Park. Designated April 17, 1978.

Natural Features--Upland forest on deep loess soils (Knox silt loam) and rugged hills in the Western Section of the Glaciated Plains Natural Division. Common overstory trees include shagbark hickory, sugar maple, basswood, hackberry and northern red, white and chinquapin oak. A small stream runs through the area. An overlook platform in the interior of this natural area gives visitors a panoramic view of the area's unusual topography. Hidden Valley Natural Area is owned and managed by the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department.
