A 256-acre area about seven miles northeast of Farmington in the NW1/4, NW1/4 of Section 29, the NE1/4 of Section 30 and the S1/2, SE1/4 of Section 19, T36N, R7E, Sprott 7.5 min. topographic map. Access is from a parking lot on Dorlac Road. There is a 2-mile interpretive trail through the area. Designated June 13, 1986.
Natural Features
Moist and dry sandstone cliffs and a sandstone glade in the Mississippi River Section of the Ozark Border Natural Division. Pickle Springs also contains a headwaters stream (LaMotte Basin), sandstone savanna, sandstone talus and sandstone forest. The area also accommodates the state-listed ground cedar, white smooth violet, shining nut-rush and hay- scented fern. Pickle Springs Natural Area is owned and managed by the Department of Conservation.
