POWDER VALLEY CONSERVATION NATURE CENTER is nestled in 112 acres of oak-hickory forest--a quiet corner in a busy urban world. Leave that chaotic lifestyle behind and escape to the nature center's trails and exhibits.

Urban oasis

Since October 1991, Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center has offered thousands of visitors a fresh look at Missouri's forests, fish and wildlife. Come explore the nature center and see for yourself the value of wisely using our resources in the urban setting--and throughout the state.

Backyard wildlife

Urban living includes wildlife neighbors. The Department of Conservation's special displays help you understand the birds, mammals, fish and reptiles commonly found in Missouri backyards, parks and forests.

Oak-hickory forest

Walk through the forest... Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center invites you out to the trails for a vigorous hike or a leisurely stroll.

• Hickory Ridge, the longest of our trails, offers 1 1/5- and 1/2-mile loops. Stride through the cool forested valley and the over the hilltops. Seasonal creeks and a pond accent the trail making this a good hike to see wildlife activity.
• Tanglevine Trail is a 1/3-mile paved and level trail, dotted with wildflowers and wildlife.
• Broken Ridge Trail (2/3 mile) goes over our steepest hills and crisscrosses a creek lined with oak, hickory and maple trees.
• The Missouri Department of Conservation cooperatively manages Emmenegger Nature Park, 108 acres with forested hills overlooking the Meramec River. The park is located 1/4 mile from the nature center entrance.

What does it cost?

Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center is owned and operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation which manages the forests, fish and wildlife resources of the state. No fees are charged at the nature center.
