Conservation Action July 2012

The Conservation Commission met in closed session July 12 at Stoney Creek Inn and July 13 at MDC Central Regional Office and Conservation Research Center in Columbia. Commissioners present were:

The Commission:
Received presentations from:

  • Resource Scientist Bob DiStefano and Resource Science Division Chief Mike Kruse regarding crayfish.
  • Dr. Josh Millspaugh, University of Missouri-Columbia, regarding Missouri elk research.
  • Design & Development Division Chief Jacob Careaga regarding the Energy Efficiency Initiative and sustainable features of the Central Regional Office and Conservation Research Center.
  • Missouri Prairie Foundation Co-founder Bill Crawford in the form of a resolution commemorating MDC’s 75th Anniversary.
  • Received public comments from:
    • Kelly Smith, Randy Welpman, Bob Temper and Robert Montgomery regarding crayfish.
    • Ron Pleus regarding chronic wasting disease in Macon County.
    • Dennis Morrissey regarding the status of quail in Missouri and habitat-restoration efforts.
  • Approved the sale of two parcels of .34 and .4 acres of Weldon Spring Conservation Area (CA) in St. Charles County to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
  • Approved purchasing approximately 160 acres in Jefferson County as an addition to the LaBarque Creek CA.
  • Suspended hunting, fishing and/or trapping privileges of 12 Missouri residents and two non-residents for Wildlife Code violations, and also affirmed actions taken by Missouri courts suspending privileges of five Missouri residents. Those whose privileges were suspended are:
    • John W. Barnwell, Rolla, all sport privileges, add 2.5 years to current suspension
    • Thomas J. Dollens, Mexico, all sport privileges, 2 years
    • Alan L. Dooley, Dubuque, Iowa, all sport privileges, 3 years
    • Carmelo F. Feliciano, Ellsinore, all sport privileges, 3 years
    • Hinh V. Ho, Kansas City, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • Damon D. Johnson, Joplin, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • Juvenile, Huntsville, hunting and fishing, indefinite
    • Juvenile, Huntsville, hunting and fishing, indefinite
    • Juvenile, Higbee, hunting and fishing, indefinite
    • Rick A. McDonald, Leslie, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • Thomas L. Presley, Morrisville, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • Scott W. Probasco, Unionville, all sport privileges, add 1.5 years to current suspension
    • Robert D. Reeves, Camdenton, hunting and fishing, lifetime
    • Clyde A. Rose, Greenfield, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • John T. Russell, Osceola, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • Bryan B. Schley, Clinton, all sport privileges, 1 year
    • Gary A. Smith, Belton, all sport privileges, 5 years
    • Kaleb W. Triplett, Deerfield, hunting, until 4/16/2013
    • Derl E. Wuertzer, Dubuque, Iowa, all sport privileges, 3 years
  • Approved the suspension or revocation of all hunting and fishing privileges of 368 people who are not in compliance with applicable child-support laws. Privileges suspended for noncompliance are reinstated once the Division of Child Support Enforcement notifies MDC that suspendees have come into compliance with the required laws.
  • Suspended privileges of 246 people under the provisions of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact.
  • Set its next regular meeting for Aug. 23 and 24 in Jefferson City.
  • Elected the following officers:
